Chapel Leader Training Program for Faculty and Staff
Equipping Faculty and Staff To Lead More Formative Chapel Experiences
Many Baylor faculty and staff have knowledge, experience, and stories that can make a meaningful contribution to students' spiritual formation. Baylor's chapels are a great venue for sharing this wisdom, yet many who are interested in leading chapel have little or no experience doing so and are unsure where to begin.
The Chapel Leader Training Program is designed to equip Baylor faculty and staff to lead undergraduate Callings and Career chapels with greater confidence and intentionality. Through six interactive lunch workshops, participants will explore practical approaches to chapel leadership while developing a chapel experience rooted in Baylor's distinctive vision of student formation embodied in Character in Deeds.
Whether you are preparing to lead chapel for the first time or have already led chapel and would like additional training, we invite you to apply.
What You'll Explore
Over six lunch workshops, participants will:
- Explore Baylor's vision for undergraduate chapel and student formation embodied in Character in Deeds.
- Develop a richer understanding of Christian vocation and virtue.
- Learn practical strategies for designing engaging and formative chapel experiences.
- Discuss examples of effective chapel practices with colleagues.
- Begin developing or refining a chapel plan that can be used in a future semester.
- Become part of a community of faculty and staff interested in supporting one another in chapel leadership.
Lunch will be provided at each session.
Program Schedule
The program consists of six lunch meetings at McMullen-Connally Faculty Center. Participants should plan to attend all sessions.
- Workshop 1: October 8, 12-1 pm
- Workshop 2: November 11, 12-1 pm
- Workshop 3: January 26, 12-1 pm
- Workshop 4: February 11, 12-1 pm
- Workshop 5: March 4, 12-1 pm
- Workshop 6: April 15, 12-1 pm
Because the workshops build on one another and rely heavily on discussion, participants should apply only if they have general availability on the dates listed above and are willing to make these meetings a priority.
Program Benefits
Participants who complete the Chapel Leader Training Program will:
- Gain practical tools and greater confidence for leading Baylor chapel.
- Develop a chapel plan that can be used or adapted for future semesters.
- Receive individualized feedback on chapel design from experienced chapel leaders.
- Learn alongside faculty and staff from across the University who share an interest in student formation.
- Become more familiar with Baylor's approach to character formation embodied in Character in Deeds--an approach that can inform activities outside chapel leadership, including teaching and mentoring.
- Become part of an emerging network of chapel leaders who can continue to learn from and support one another.
- Receive curated books and other resources related to vocation, virtue, and Christian formation within their disciplinary or professional context.
- Help shape a pilot program that will inform the future development of chapel leader training at Baylor.
Faculty and staff who are eligible for additional compensation under Baylor policies will receive a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the program. Participants should consult their unit leadership if they have questions about stipend eligibility.
Who Should Apply?
This program is intended for Baylor faculty and staff who:
- are interested in leading or plan this academic year to lead a Baylor Callings & Career chapel, or
- have previously led a chapel and would like additional training and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues.
No previous chapel leadership experience is required.
